Laser and Optoelectronic Industry Summit Held in Wenzhou

On the afternoon of October 12, 2018, the 2018 China Laser and Optoelectronic Industry Summit was held in Wenzhou. Representatives from leading companies and experts from research institutions gathered in Wenzhou to discuss cutting-edge technologies and high-end applications in advanced laser manufacturing.

Since June 2013, when Wenzhou was officially approved as a pilot for an innovative laser and optoelectronic industrial cluster by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the city has introduced and nurtured a number of leading companies and research institutions, including Penticon Laser (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Jiatai Laser Technology Co., Ltd., Wenzhou Bona Laser Technology Co., Ltd., the Laser and Optoelectronic Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute of Wenzhou University, and the Wuhan University of Technology Wenzhou Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Institute. These entities have demonstrated and promoted the application of laser processing technology in industries such as apparel, footwear, pumps and valves, and electrical equipment.

After more than five years of exploration, Wenzhou has initially formed an industrial chain characterized by laser applications, photovoltaic power generation, and LED lighting and optical communications. According to statistics, in 2017, the industrial chain of Wenzhou's laser and optoelectronic innovative industrial cluster comprised 234 associated enterprises (including 180 high-tech companies), with a total industrial output value of over 60 billion yuan.

The summit invited industry leaders to deliver keynote speeches, including Xue Wei, Vice President of Wenzhou University; Professor Chen Jing from Northwestern Polytechnical University; Director Zhao Jibin (Researcher) from the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Mei Xuesong from Xi'an Jiaotong University; Martino Burlamacchi, Chairman of Penticon Laser (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd.; and Professor Dong Shiyun from the Armored Forces Engineering Institute. These experts shared insights into the latest technological advancements and industry trends, offering valuable advice for the development of Wenzhou's laser and optoelectronic industrial cluster.

During the conference, a joint graduate training base for laser and optoelectronic intelligent manufacturing was established through a signing ceremony. Initiated by Wenzhou University and the Lanzhou University of Technology Wenzhou Pump and Valve Engineering Research Institute, and co-established with over 30 industry enterprises including Penticon Laser (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd., Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Jiuheng Optoelectric Technology Co., Ltd., the base aims to leverage the strengths of universities and research institutes in talent cultivation, intellectual resources, teaching, research, and equipment, while utilizing the practical engineering and technology promotion advantages of enterprises. The goal is to enhance graduates' technological innovation capabilities and problem-solving skills, better serve industrial development, and foster mutually beneficial cooperation between academia and industry.

Additionally, the Optical Science and Engineering Center of National University of Singapore, Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group Co., Ltd., and the Laser and Optoelectronic Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute of Wenzhou University signed a strategic cooperation agreement focused on high-level talent development and industry-academia-research collaboration in laser and optoelectronics.

"Through this summit, we hope to attract more experts, senior talents, and entrepreneurs to Wenzhou for exchange, cooperation, and innovation, thereby promoting the better development of Wenzhou's laser and optoelectronic industry," said a representative from the Wenzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. In February of this year, Wenzhou was approved to build a national independent innovation demonstration zone. As a key pillar of the smart equipment industry in the demonstration zone, the laser and optoelectronic sector is expected to enter a new phase of rapid growth. Wenzhou aims to build a nationally influential innovation center for the intelligent equipment industry by developing advanced laser manufacturing systems.
